Infection

    Strep throat.

Strep throat is caused by Group A Streptococcus bacteria. It differs from a viral sore throat in its sudden onset, high fever, and characteristic red tonsils — often with white patches. Untreated strep can lead to complications, so testing is important.

    Quick answer

Strep throat is a bacterial infection causing a sudden sore throat, fever, and swollen glands. We run a rapid test in about 10 minutes and prescribe antibiotics if positive.
