Infection

    Ear infection.

Otitis media (middle ear infection) usually follows a cold. Fluid builds behind the eardrum and gets infected. Not all ear infections need antibiotics — some resolve on their own with observation and pain control.

    Quick answer

Middle ear infections are common in kids and cause ear pain, fever, and fussiness. We examine the eardrum and prescribe antibiotics or pain control depending on severity.
